“Another one bite the dust.

The Korean American community of Los Angeles and all over the world has a reason to rejoice. Another corrupt South Korean ruler was ousted by People’s Power.

South Korea’s Constitutional Court has upheld a decision by the country’s National Assembly to impeach President Park Geun-hye.

Like Father, Like Daughter, Park is the first South Korean President to be impeached. An election for her replacement must be held within 60 days.

She is the daughter of South Korean strongman Park Chung Hee who was killed in a coup ’de tat in 1979.General Park Chung Hee came into power by by a coup against Korean President Syngman Rhee in 1961.He declared himself as dictator and President of Korea for 18 years until he was killed in a coup’ d tat in 1979.

It is good to note that President Syngman Rhee of Korea from 1950 to1961 was overthrown by a coup led by General Park Chung Hee because of corruption while in power for 11 years.

It echoes the situation in the Philippines where corruption is rampant. Actually, South Korea and the Philippines have similarities. Both are American colonies and are US client states. It is also wracked by military coups and People’s Power Revolutions.

Even in the present regime of PDUT, corruption is rampant as evidenced by the MRT Central station fiasco, the Bureau of Customs Jack Lam scam and other scandals that the PDUT regime refuses to even acknowledge and remedy.

In fairness to Park Chung Hee who became president and the dictator of South Korea for 18 years, he modernized Korea and made it an economic superpower in competition with arch-enemy-japan.

Some wags compare Dictator Marcos with General Park. They say, while Park was deeply patriotic and yet corrupt, he made Korea an economic power. On the other hand, Marcos was never a patriot and robbed his people blind.

One reason that corrupt Asian leaders rules stay in power is America’s support. Marcos lasted 20 years in power because of US support especially when he declared martial and ruled as a dictator for 14 years. It’s also the case in South Korea.

In South Korea, there are still 30,000 American ground troops and the 7th Fleet with American bases in Korea and japan stands guard against the “invasion rom the north.” If there are no American troops in South Korea, then the two Koreas have re-united as one peacefully.29906170001_5354302711001_5354282998001-vs

It was the five month protests in South Korea that really brought down Park. Park’s problems began in October, when revelations emerged about the influence Park’s confidante and adviser Choi Soon-sil had over the President.

The court upheld the impeachment, which was enacted by South Korean lawmakers in December, because she was judged to have abused her authority in helping Choi raise donations from companies. Choi is currently on trial for abuse of power and fraud.

In December, 2016 lawmakers voted to impeach Park by a vote of 234 to 56, stripping away her executive powers. Since then she has remained in the presidential Blue House, but has remained largely out of public view.

Her final weeks in office were marred by huge demonstrations as hundreds of thousands of South Koreans braved the brutally cold winter temperatures to take to the streets of Seoul.

Even here in Los Angeles Korean Americans held solidarity rallies and called for her ouster. The last rally was on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the LA Korean Consulate in Wilshire Blvd.

Korean American has a large population here in California and other major cities of the United States. The Korean American population in Los Angeles is 300,000 as of 2016. There are more than 1, 307,000 Korean Americans in the United States.

As they say, it’s the sign of the times. What happened in South Korea is a dire warning to PDUT in the Philippines.

Senator Sonny Trillanes warning of PDUT impeachment within the next two years also warrant an advice; “PDUT has to shape up or ship out.”

This maybe the reason why PDUT and his subalterns warns of “destabilization plots” and PDUT himself warns of the “declaration of martial law.”

Well. PDUT has mastered the art of political burlesque. Like a stripteaser, he flirts with martial law. But unlike Marcos or Park Chung Hee, he has to confront a militant Filipino people.

As many wags say; “Bring it on”
