They defied the storm, the angry winds and the flooded streets during California’s strongest storm.

They came all the way as far as southwest from Texas and San Diego and up north from Vallejo and the Bay area, young and old, families, couples and individuals just to watch “SIKAT KA KAPUSO ABROAD” last Sunday, January 22.

They came more than 3,500 strong and filled the Terrace Theater of the Long Beach Convention Center in downtown Long Beach. What is common among them? They are all Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in the United States!

Can you beat that, ABS-CBN KAPAMILYA? Well, eat your heart out KAPAMILYAS. This show proved that GMA KAPUSO is not only ahead in the Metro Manila but is also at the heels of the ABS-CBN and is burning their pants off.

Die-hard Alden Richards fans shrieked their hearts out and will erupts into cheers every time the emcee mentioned his name and during the program everytime he came out to be with co-stars and perform at the stage.

No doubt, he is the biggest star of the night. The PAMBANSANG BABE of the Philippines. IT’s just phenomenal, the adulation of the crowd towards Alden Richards of the KALYE SERYE fame.

But what keeps the energy of the crowd high was the antics, song and dance performance and the audience participation led by Betong Sumaya alias Antonietta.

He really prepared the set for the performers and co-stars, the GMA powerhouse: Dennis Trillo and Jennelyn Mercado, Tom Rodriguez and Lovi Poe and of course-Alden Richards.

The rumored couple, Dennis Trillo and Jennelyn Mercado regaled the crowd swith famous Filipino ballads. The crowd erupted when Jennelyn Mercado introduced Dennis Trillo as “MY PAPA” for his number.

Tom Rodriguez gamely gave his songs and dance number in a very versatile way. This guy cannot only act but can really sing as he dedicated his songs to his family who where there to watch him.

16195893_1058487610929676_849874626746532888_nLovi Poe is an equally masterful singer and dancer. She really is a Poe, a worthy daughter of “THE KING”, Fernando Poe Jr. who must be proud to see her and the crowd adulation to this temptress of a beauty.

Most of all, the loudest cheers was reserved for BABE ALDEN RICHARDS, who can surely dance and sing. He still has a long way to go but his songs and dance routine really shook up the theater into near frenzy.

Lighting was superb in the theater and all got their money’s worth with the GMA performers. The thousands of cell phone flashlight added to the glitter of the sbow when Alden asked the people to lit up the theater with their cellphone light.

Well, Filipinos loved to sing and the crowd sung with the singer and you can hear and feel the crowd sing and respond to the soulful music. Almost everybody were singing with the KAPUSO stars.

The beauty of Pilipino love song and the English OPM showed its terrible beauty that night.

The SIKAT KA KAPUSO ABROAD stars thanked the crowd for defying the storm, the flooded streets and the wild winds that brought the most powerful in California’s history. That’s the Filipino spirit!

We were proud the GMA starts complemented of our hard drive to the convention center, slicing through the flooded streets, doing several detours and wading through the flooded parking lot.

That was my first time in the Long Beach Convention Center. The crowd showed the displeasure for the more than 45 minutes of games and intermission before the two-hour program. Many boos and anger were expressed, but in the end the crowd bear it “ because the sponsors brought the stars to perform” in the theater.

Well, what will satisfy the Filipinos yearning for the homeland but to see their favorite stars to perform in the states? I really commend the GMA7 for the good repertoire, choice of songs and for bringing the powerhouse stars in Long Beach.

It’s really a night worth going out in the raging storm to be with our kababayans and our favorite movie stars from the Philippines.
