GPH PRRD DECLARES 6-DAY UNILATERAL CEASEFIRE, DECEMBER 22-27, 2016joma-duterte-0510-1

Los Angeles– Shall we have a peaceful Christmas in the Philippines?

Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte (PRRD) has formally declared a 6-day unilateral ceasefire sans the bilateral ceasefire he sought from the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

The NDFP meanwhile have not declared their own traditional unilateral ceasefire for the coming holiday season from December 24, 2016 to January 1, 2017. Both sides have stuck to their demands on bilateral and unilateral ceasefires.

Senior NDF Consultant Benito Tiamzon has also declared, ” there is no need for a formal bilateral ceasefire during the peace talks.”

Despite the latest phone conference between NDFP Political Consultant Jose Ma. Sison and PRDD, no announcement has been made about a bilateral ceasefire between two parties.

The NDFP has demanded that PRRD released all political prisoners numbering more than 400 in GPH jails before, during or after the signing of a peace accords .

On the other hand, PRRD has declared that he will not free any more prisoners until a peace accord is signed. He has declared that with or without a bilateral ceasefire with the NDF, he will not release any political prisoners.

OPLAN BAYANIHAN/TOKHANG

Another sticking point is the continued military operations in the NPA base areas in the guise of Operation Tokhang or the anti-drug war of the Duterte Regime.

The military continued not only its operations but also maintained its physical presence in the NPA areas in the forms of camps, detachments and made arrests and civic action as well as counter-insurgency operations in the barrios and even in the urban areas.

PRRD has maintained that “a coalition government being offered by the NDF is a no-no under his government” and has maintained that “there is only government and armed forces in the Philippines” and that is “his (Duterte’s) government.”
