STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY FOR THE GLOBAL PROTEST AGAINST MARCOS BURIAL, STOP THE KILLINGS ,DEFEND DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS IN THE PHILIPPINES

Los Angeles- Protest the furtive burial of Dictator Marcos at LMNB and Fight for Our Democratic Rights!

It is a national tragedy when a dictator is buried with honors at the LMNB reserved for heroes. Even with the bourgeois standards, a dictator cannot be buried in that hollowed ground.

Thus today, on the 153rd Birth Anniversary of Supremo Andres Bonifacio we protest this travesty of injustice and historical revisionism in the United States, the Philippines and around the world.

It is more than tragic when a populist demagogue like Digong Duterte threatens human rights activists, makes mockery on anti-Marcos activists and threatens his people with the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus and eventually martial law like his idol Marcos have done in the past and he is duplicating at present

PPRD and his Supreme Court, Shame On You!

For sure he is not joking and but serious. At the rate that more than 5,600 “extra judicial killings’ or EJK’s had happened, we have no other means but to protests and stop this gross violations of our democratic rights.

We cannot bow to tyranny and gross injustices like the re-emergence of another tyrant disguised in populist rhetorics like Digong Duterte. In this trying times, we must steadfastly defend what we have won against the dictator for the last 30 years.

Today we join the Filipino people in our homeland and globally in protest against the furtive burial with honors of a dictator. We hold President Rodrigo Duterte responsible for this travesty of injustice and shame!

We also hold the reactionary Supreme Court in this travesty of lawlessness.

Never again martial law! Fight for our democratic rights!

Stop the killings!

Marcos is No Hero! Duterte and the Supreme Court, Shame on you!

ALLIANCE PHILIPPINES: ETERNAL GLORY TO COMMANDER COMRADE FIDEL CASTRO

Los Angeles-Viva Fidel! Viva Cuba Libre!

The Alliance Philippines (AJLPP) based in the United States pay homage and honor Commander and Comrade Fidel Castro of Cuba who passed away recently.

We expressed deepest sorrow in the passing of a great commander and President of Cuba, Comrade Fidel Castro and join the Cuban people in their nine days of tribute and celebration of his life.

Fidel and the July 26 Movement (J26M)

15178944_1435688229782161_8083884269405774614_nCommandate Fidel Castro led the failed assault on the Moncada Barracks when Fulgencii Battista launched a coup in Cuba and was captured in 1953. he was jailed and when he was pardoned, he went to exile in Mexico and trained recruits for an armed revolution for Cuba called the July 26 Movement.

in 1958, the J26 M went back from exile and led an armed struggle against the Fulgencio Batista US supported dictatorship. In January 2, 1959, they brought dowbn the much hated Batista dictatorship in Cuba.

Castro then led his people in building Socialism in Cuba and stood up to its imperialist neighbor- The United States for 50 years. Cuba, supported the third world countries in their struggle for freedom and nation building against the encroachment of US Imperialism and its cohorts.

The Passing of the Torch15168815_1435741153110202_1955799818760095306_o

Castro turned over power in 2008 to Raul Castro and continued to help in consolidating Cuba’s socialism and international solidarity.

His revolutionary work inspired many revolutionaries including those in the Philippines and the United States at the time when anti-communism and counter-revolutionary hysteria was the order of the day.

Comrade Fidel lived a life of a revolutionary and his enduring work for the people and all oppressed people of the world lives on!

MABUHAY ANG DAKILANG GURO AT KUMANDER NG REBULUSYONG CUBANA!

KADAKILAAN AT PAGPUPUGAY KAY KASAMANG FIDEL CASTRO!

THE “SOLID NORTH” CHOSE GRACE POE, NOT DU30Grace Poe

By Arturo P. Garcia

President Duterte, again has assumed ( or lied again) by saying that that people elected him with the big margin because he was agreeable to burying Marcos in LNMB.

He was saying “ that 50,000 Ilocanos will go down to Manila” to honor the dried bones of the Dictator at LMNB . So far this did not happen.

He was even threatening, “to suspend the writ of habeas corpus” as the mass protests grew against the furtive burial of the dictator at LMNB last November 18.

Maybe he is hallucinating with the lies that have been fed to him by the Marcos family. Or he was just doing and saying what he was paid for by the Marcos.

My best bet is that he is again lying to his teeth. He usually flouts his power as President and in the process he can say anything even if it’s a lie.

The fact remained that for The FILAMS FOR GRACE MOVEMENT in the United States believes that the 16 million people who voted for him did so because of his promise to eliminate drugs and criminality and not because he was amenable to burying the dictator in LNMB.15036411_10155095011439453_8506618822733612125_n

Besides this is not a majority vote but a plurality vote. If we will add the votes of Grace Poe, Mar Roxas and Miriam Defensor-Santiago, then DU30 win is not a convincing mandate.

We ask, what special affection the president has for the so-called “hurting Ilocano-speaking people” when he did not even win in the Ilocos region? Actually, It was Grace Poe who won in three of four Ilocos provinces. This despite her ( Grace Poe) position not to bury the dictator in the LMNB during the last presidential elections last May 2016.

To add insult to injury, Vice President Leni Robredo won more than 200,000 votes that was her winning margin in the Ilocos Region that gave her her safe margin of votes nationwide.

Yes its true, Virginia, THERE IS NO SOLID NORTH,

It was only a myth made up by the former dictator and until now being peddled by his son-Ferdinand Marcos Jr/ Bongbong Marcos and his family.14907603_1253283251359217_7633935336212998100_n

We are not grieving that the dictator is now buried in the hallowed grounds for heroes; In fact we are mobilizing for more protests . We sincerely believe this is temporary. One day, we can foresee his remains will be exhumed through a referendum or some other means.

Columnist Solita Monsod calls them, the 9 justices who voted for the burial of the dictator as “ injustices.” They followed the footsteps of the Marcos Supreme Court from 1972-1986 who followed the Marcos rules.

Now, the Kuarta Suprema of DU30 has also followed and upheld his rules. This Kuarta Suprema has a tradition to kowtow to sitting presidents and is corrupt and unjust save for a few brave souls in that dark chamber.

DU30, the Marcos family and the unjust Supreme Court can bury the dictator furtively. But they cannot bury the truth and justice forever.

They who cannot “handle the truth” cannot be absolved by history.

FILIPINO-AMERICAN HUMAN RIGHTS ALLIANCE

15109515_10153920874937854_8116099888226469306_n

In October 2016, groups active in cities across north America formed Filipino American Human Rights Alliance (FAHRA), a broad coalition of organizations and individuals opposing President Duterte’s attacks on human rights in the Philippines.

-In his first five months in office, President Duterte, through reprehensible public statements, encouraged vigilante justice, thus instigating unabated extrajudicial killings of thousands of drug suspects by police and vigilante elements as part of his war on drugs. More than 5,000 people have been killed so far in the Philippines’ drug war.

-President Duterte carried out a hero’s burial of the former dictator, Ferdinand Marcos, despite the well-documented and grave violations of human rights and plunder perpetrated by the dictator, and the absence of an apology from the Marcoses.

-President Duterte bandied about threats to suspend the writ of habeas corpus and declare martial law.

FAHRA demands that President Duterte expressly denounce extrajudicial killings, desist from exhorting people and police to kill drug users and suspects, conduct a thorough and effective investigation of the killings, and fully cooperate with investigations by international human rights advocates such as the United Nations Special Rapporteur.

FAHRA demands that President Duterte be held fully accountable for the stealthy hero’s burial of the dictator Marcos at the LNMB, and that he exercise his executive prerogative to order the exhumation of the Marcos remains from the LNMB gravesite reserved for Philippine hero and have these flown back to Marcos’ hometown in Batac, Ilocos Norte.

A hero’s burial for Marcos glosses over the crimes he committed against the Filipino people during the 13 years he usurped power. When Marcos was finally booted out of the country by a people power uprising in 1986, he fled with an estimated $10 billion worth of plundered loot hidden worldwide. The dictator left the economy in shambles, with $28 billion of external debt, an inflation rate of over 50%, 58.9% incidence of poverty, and a negative economic growth rate. Marcos dealt brutally with those who opposed his one-man rule. Amnesty International estimates the number of opponents killed by the Marcos dictatorship at 3,240, the number tortured at 34,000 and the number imprisoned at 70,000.

FAHRA demands that President Duterte uphold due process and civil liberties, cease threatening to declare martial law, and stop any plans he might have to impose authoritarian rule.15135896_10208056073824960_2710043578821660784_n

FAHRA, aligned with international conventions to protect the civil, political, economic, and social rights of all people, unequivocally condemns all human rights abuses past and present, and affirms that no perpetrator of human rights abuses be conferred hero status as was brazenly done with Marcos, who was buried at LNMB with full military honors.

FAHRA will fight any and all future transgressions against human rights.

FORMER SENATOR RENE SAGUISAG TO PRRD

( Senator Rene Saguisag issued this statement to President Rodrigo R, Duterte. We published this statement–Editors)

“In the end there really is no one to blame but you Mr. Duterte. Your incorrigibility is your worst trait. You have yet to learn Philippine history. To favor one family over thousands of martial law and human rights abuse victims is insulting to say the least to them and their families.

You wouldn’t even listen to the leftists in your cabinet; they who likewise suffered immensely during those dark days. And for what? To curry favor with the Marcoses? To fulfill a campaign promise? Because your father served in the Marcos cabinet? How much more shallow can your reasoning be?

Mysterious-image-appeared-onPH-flag-during-Dutertes-inaugural-speechI believe your title is President, not King. You demand respect but seem to be incapable of giving any. We elected a leader, not a ruler, and you can’t seem to tell the difference.

You took an oath to defend the Constitution but from your actuations since taking office you seem to be testing your new found powers, from your pronouncements about imposing martial law, suspending the writ of habeas corpus, to having to “innovate the law”, whatever that means.

Be very careful about crossing the Filipino people sir. In millennial speak, #DontUs. The Philippines is bigger than Davao; you cannot bully your way thru any decision you make and expect no consequences.

This is not an Aquino-Marcos thing as you so wrongly configure it to be. The former president has so far been quiet on the issue despite the goading and bashing of your hordes.

If you have any decency left in you, listen to the people’s cry. Listen to reasonable men, not your inner circle of suck-ups and sycophants. Words have consequences, and how you tread from hereon may have dire ones for you.”

– Rene Saguisag

Siklab Bayani: Para sa Katotohanan. Marcos Burial is Ultimately Duterte’s Accountability

15109515_10153920874937854_8116099888226469306_n

Los Angeles— The buck stops at President Duterte’s door. The events that led to the burial of Marcos as a hero began as a campaign promise, as a quid pro quo for the Marcos family’s support.

After Duterte’s victory, this burial became a unilateral, undemocratic exercise of Presidential prerogative in total and absolute defiance of the people’s collective disgust and continued pursuit of justice for the Marcos family’s crimes.

Nine of the Supreme Court justices legitimized it through weak, faulty logic hard-pressed for any moral basis. Then some AFP units and their superiors translated the Commander-in-Chief’s promise into action in contempt of due process.

That the truth about the Marcoses has been lost due to this dishonorable burial is a spit in the faces not only of the victims of human rights violations under Martial Law, but the generations of Filipinos who will pay for the billions of debts he pocketed and the institutions he politicized and destroyed.

The Coalition Against the Marcos Burial in LNMB therefore calls once again on all Filipinos who cherish their freedoms to sustain and intensify our shared outrage against the burial of Marcos as a hero.

The imperative of the moment is to build the broadest coalition possible, and it is for this reason that we call for Filipinos to join us again on November 30th from 4pm onwards at the People Power Monument to reclaim the truth: that Marcos is not a hero, and never will be.

CAMB does not set any preconditions for the inclusion of any group, whether they be from the left, or supporters of the previous administration.

15036411_10155095011439453_8506618822733612125_nCAMB believes this is the only condition by which we can truly forge a united front against the immediate foe: the Marcos family and their efforts at twisting historical facts to suit their return to power, with Duterte as their enabling agent.

We oppose any effort to diminish and dilute the responsibility of Duterte for the Marcos burial. Our efforts should be directed at Duterte and the Marcoses, and not against each other.
CAMB respects similar initiatives organized elsewhere, and we reject attempts to paint one or another initiative as opposed to, instead of complementing each other.

But we lament divisive rhetoric previously quoted and circulated, whether deflecting blame for the burial on previous administrations, or those sowing divisions in the ranks of the people.

We thus encourage all freedom-loving citizens to join us and be one with the rest of the nation in taking Duterte to account for the Marcos burial.

Together, let the flames of our outrage burn the hands of those who sought to play god with history, and impose upon us a pekeng bayani.

Because with this treacherous glorification of the dictator, patalikod tayong sinaksak ng Duterte administration gamit ang punyal ng panakaw na paglilibing.

Treacherous burial mocks struggle of or press freedom during Martial Law

November 23, 2016Treacherous burial mocks struggle of or press freedom during Martial Law

15135896_10208056073824960_2710043578821660784_n

National Union of Journalists of the Philippines
November 22, 2016

( On the 7th Anniversary of the infamous Maguindanao Massacre, we published the statement of the NUJP . The statement also expressed outrage of the Filipino journalists on the burial of Dictator Marcos with military honors at the LMNB with the complicity of PRRD and the reactionary Supreme Court of the Philippines.)

Los Angeles–The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) shares the Filipino people’s outrage against the treacherous burial of the remains of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (LnmB).

The burial mocks the life-and-death resistance of the journalists and media workers in the struggle to expand the frontiers of press freedom during the dark days of Martial Law.

While it is true that the Libingan has long been desecrated as a sacred space for the national memory, the people still cling to its intended political and social symbolism, that is, to hold in high esteem the people whose deeds reflect the values we hold dear as a society.

Marcos’ filthy record of suppressing press freedom and attacking journalists at the onset of Martial Law, and then prostituting media practice through the operation of crony news organizations is anything but deplorable.

Press freedom was among the first casualties of Marcos’ vile adventurism with political power. Martial Law not only led to mass extrajudicial murders, it also attempted to kill the truth.

15036532_1411815788836072_3821808158370566313_n

Marcos ordered the closure of newspapers. His government took control of radio and television stations.

Many media workers were imprisoned, tortured and died fighting the dictatorship. Others were forced to go underground or into exile to evade arrest.

To protect and maintain his monopoly on power, Marcos allowed the operation of crony-controlled newspapers, radio and television stations whose main purpose was to air and publish the “good and beautiful” about Martial Law or the so-called “Bagong Lipunan (New Society).”

Amid the tyrannical rule, Filipino media workers continued to fight for press freedom and exposed the truth through underground newspapers and alternative news media later called the “Mosquito Press.”

These papers were secretly distributed or passed from reader to reader by hand, detailing the massive human rights violations, plunder of our economy by the Marcos family and their cronies and calling for heightened resistance. These helped in galvanizing the resistance and unity against the dictatorship leading to Marcos’ ouster on Feb. 25, 1986.

The overthrow of the dictatorship also led to the restoration of democratic institutions including the independent press.

The burial of Marcos at the hero’s cemetery seeks to gloss over, erase or worse, reverse these historical facts. This is anathema to the very essence of our role as chroniclers of our country’s contemporary history.

We stand by the people in decrying this mockery. We are one with them in ensuring that this will not happen again.

After all, it is because of the people that we exist. And it is the interest of the people that we will tirelessly serve. •
