Reminder: NEED ASSISTANCE
We need 5 volunteers to assist with managing sign-in sheets and distributing petitions at 10 AM on 11/11. Tasks will include checking in participants and collecting signatures at the beginning and end of the march. Please confirm with us by this Friday, 10/28 if you or your organization are interested.

PILAC / KOR-HFT MARKED 150TH BIRTHDAY OF GENERAL ANTONIO LUNA OCTOBER 27, 2016

For the first time ever, the Filipino-American Community in the United States marked the 150th Birth Anniversary of the Greatest Filipino General of the First Philippine Republic.

The commemorative event was held at the Mayflower Restaurant in Chinatown, DTLA last Thursday, October 27, 2016

PILAC Founder Emily Roberts made the opening remarks. She said, “General Antonio Luna was known to be the bravest General of the first Philippine Republic.That is why we honor him today,”

The Seniors of the Silver Lake Adult CBA’s featured the folk dance “Bulaklakan” They were led and mentored by newly elected PILAC President Bernie Targa-Ganon.

The guest speaker Vice Consul Rainier Casis represented Consul General Adel Cruz said, “I thanked PILAC and KOR holding this event for the Filipino American Heritage Month.

I wish them more power. This is so they can more empower the FIlipino-American community.”

And then PILAC staged a BALAGTASAN or poetic joust on Pilipino language. The topic was on the use of National Language vs the use of English.

Ms. Bernie Targa-Ganon stood for the National Language while Art Garcia and Susan Adorable argued for the foreign language. On the other hand, the moderator of LAKADIWA was played by Macky Fortu and Pastor bautista.

This is In line with the celebration of the Filipino American Heritage Month (FAHM) ,PILAC and the Knights of Rizal (KOR)-Historic FIlipintown Chapter commemorated General Luna and the sacrifices of our martyrs and heroes during the Filipino-American War and in defense of our republic.

Dances, Songs and Celebrations

The crowd was regaled later with Tagalog songs performed by Sir. Rudy Ferran of the KOR-California..

The program ended with songs, dances and tee a tee of scores of community leaders from PILAC,KOR-Chapters, Silver Lake Adult CBAS, COTIFA, FACLA Inc., SCALA,Rotary Club of HFT, LASOS and other groups.

Also present at the affair was celebrated FilAm Atty. Mariano Alvarez.
