ALLIANCE-PHILIPPINES AND BANTAY PILIPINAS-USA JOINTLY CONDEMNS BLOODY DISPERSAL IN KIDAPAWAN,COTABATO

Kidapawan Massacre 2016Los Angeles-“Food, Not Bullets. Livelihood, Not Violence!”

The Alliance-Philippines and Bantay Pilipinas -USA jointly condemn in the strongest possible terms, the senseless dispersal and bloody shooting of Mindanao farmers in Kidapawan, Cotabato in Mindanao, (April 1. 2016 in the Philippines).

Jerry Esguerra of Bantay Pilipinas-USA said, ” We stand with the oppressed farmers in Mindanao and condemn such police violence against the hungry and unarmed farmers in Mindanao and the following hararssment of the media and the peasants.”

The Alliance-Philippines and Bantay-Pilipinas USA also strongly denounces the violent dispersal of the rally of farmers in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato and the following harassment of media and farmers seeking shelter at the Methodist Church in Kidapawan.

US-Aquino III Regime Responsible for the Carnage

philippines2According news reports, as of this writing, 5 were killed, 116 persons were wounded, and around 100 were arrested and 87 others including children were missing in the said dispersal. ”

Aliance Philippines and Bantay Pilipinas-USA in the United States also ” holds President Benigno Aquino III regime and the PNP accountable for the said assault on the farmers.

The farmers were barricading the Kidapawan highway as a’ legitimate protest action for the release of 15,000 sacks of rice as subsidy for those affected El Niño phenomenon. ”

No Justification

Art Garcia of the Alliance based in Los Angeles added, ” There is no justifiable reason for the use of violence against the defendless and hungry  farmers who are conducting the protest.

Since March 30, more than 6,000 farmers from Makilala, Mlang, Tulunan, Magpet, Roxas, Antipas, Arakan towns and Kidapawan City  who are affected by the drought due to El Nino.have been conducting the protest action near the National Food Authority (NFA) warehouse in Kidapawan City.

And yet, the Provincial government refused to aid the farmers and when they protested , the PNP brutally dispersed the crowd by gunfire, water cannons and mass arrests.”

Food and Livelihood, Not Bullets, Feed the hungry farmers not kill them!
