KmB’s Jay Eusantos at Carson’s Larry Itliong Day, OCtober 124, 2015

Deputy Finance Chair, Jay Eusantos (@jbayani), announces #JFAV15 to the City of Carson at the Larry Itliong Day Celebration. From Los Angeles to the South Bay, we demand fully equity. This is not about money. This is about recognition. Filipino-American WWII veterans deserve recognition too. They fought and gave their lives for a country that refuses to recognize their service. 66 other countries were recognized for their allyship. The Philippines is the only country that is denied. Repeal the Rescission Act of 1946! #Filipino #FilAm #JFAV #Community #Solidarity #WWII #Veterans #Carson #Southbay #EquityNow #KmB #ProPeopleYouth #JusticeNow #Organize #CommunityOrganizing

Here is the list of our 5 demands for the JFAV March:

1. Filipino veterans’ wartime services should be recognized and deemed as active service. Eliminate the distinction between the Regular or “Old” Philippine Scouts, “New “ Philippine Scouts and the remaining three groups of veterans: Commonwealth Army of the Philippines, Recognized Guerrilla Forces, and New Philippine Scouts.

2.  Lump sum under ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) should only be an additional benefit and there will be no quit claim attached to their benefits. All additional benefits should not be taxable and their other benefits should remain.

3. Widows and children of Filipino veterans should be eligible for the Survivors Pension benefit otherwise known as the Death Pension like the families of all U.S. veterans.

4. The working visa guidelines must be released by the DHS before the end of 2015 in order to expedite the process of reuniting veterans, widows, and their families by allowing certain family members to travel to the US under parole status.

5. The HR 2766 or the Filipino Veterans Fairness Act of 2015 must be considered by the congressional veterans committee immediately and moved to the House or Senate accordingly. This will be the subject of the reconciled bill that the veterans want. That is, a single unified reconciled bill must be signed into a law in 2016.
