REP. JACKIE SPEIER REINTRODUCED EQUITY BILL

SAN FRANCISCO–From Congresswoman Jackie Speier

“Introduced Legislation to Restore Benefits Owed to Filipino Veterans
Image

On Friday, I reintroduced legislation that would provide justice for Filipino soldiers who fought with the United States in World War II but have been denied the benefits given to all other veterans.

In 1946, Congress refused to grant Filipino servicemembers the compensation promised by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, creating a historic wrong that Congress has failed to address.

I have been fortunate enough to meet many of these veterans who live in our district over the years and I know that they deserve better.

I WILL NOT CONCEDE. TULOY ANG LABAN.

By Neri Colmenares

14305444_10154554963460229_5378197365707566155_o

LOS ANGELES—Under ordinary circumstances, a senatorial candidate who did not make it to the winning 12 is supposed to accept the results of the elections, concede defeat and move on.

But these are not ordinary times. And these are not normal elections.

Even before the campaign period, we saw how candidates were already campaigning, spending hundreds of millions on TV and radio advertisments.

But that was nothing compared to the deluge of ads during the campaign period, skirting whatever limits we’re supposed to have on campaign spending and advertising.

We saw how government resources, funds and facilities were used to promote pro-Administration candidates, especially those favored by the President.

We saw how the rules – from postering and other campaign activities to widespread vote buying – were being flouted with impunity up to election day, and the COMELEC seemingly blind or helpless about it.

What Honesty?

We saw how the President, using his presidential platform, led the vilification of the opposition and progressive candidates, dishing out insults and lies at every opportunity.

This year, honesty as a qualification for public office was openly thrown out the window. And vote buying was justified by the highest official of the land.

We saw how the President and his allies threatened and intimidated local politicians into supporting their candidates and denying the opposition and progressive candidates the opportunity to campaign at the grassroots.

I have never seen so fearful a set of local politicians than now.

We saw how the PNP and AFP were used to campaign against progressive candidates at the national and local levels, with the entire Mindanao still under martial law and known progressive bailiwicks in Bicol, Eastern and Western Visayas subject to intensified, tokhang-style police and military operations, resulting in at least two massacres and a state of terror in the communities.

On election day itself, the PNP were caught red-handed distributing black propaganda against us in various polling centers in Metro Manila.

Failure of Elections

On election day itself, there were unprecedented failures in the vote counting machines and SD cards used to run those machines.

In the evening, we saw how the transmitted results were withheld from the public for seven hours on some flimsy technical glitch that had never happened in the past three automated elections.

Many of us slept and woke up to the TV screen showing 12 winning senators, not knowing what happened.

How can I concede to a rotten electoral exercise that has basically deceived, bribed, intimidated and manipulated our people into electing the worst kinds of leaders imaginable? I cannot.

It would have been easy to concede had I lost in a fair and honest elections. But this year’s elections were hardly fair or honest. Besides this is no longer about me. It’s about giving our people a fair chance to exercise their constitutional right to suffrage.

I may have lost the count. But I will not be defeated. We will continue the fight for democracy, national sovereignty and social justice.

Tuloy ang laban!

STATEMENT OF BARRY GUTIERREZ

KAPITBAHAY NEWS
Mayo 13, 2019

STATEMENT OF BARRY GUTIERREZ
Volunteer-spokesperson, Otso Diretso

LOS ANGELES—According to the COMELEC itself, an estimated 400 to 600 vote counting machines (VCMs) have so far malfunctioned in today’s elections.

This is thrice the number of 188 VCMs replaced in the elections of 2016, and is equivalent to an estimated 500,000 potentially disenfranchised voters.

This is unacceptable, especially since these same VCMs were supposedly tested less than a week ago. One would expect that with greater experience with automated elections, COMELEC would perform better. Instead, the opposite is happening. We demand an explanation.

This is only part of a bigger context where COMELEC has consistently failed to safeguard the citizens’ right to engage in the electoral process:

1. We requested the COMELEC to sponsor debates during the election campaign and were denied;

2. There are numerous reports of unmailed ballots leading to the disenfranchisement of overseas voters;

3. COMELEC named a majority-aligned party as the dominant minority party for these elections, defying the principles of democracy, the law, and common sense;

4. COMELEC has yet to grant us—a major national political party representing the opposition– access to their mirror servers, minutes before polling centers close.

5. Administration-allied candidates have, prior to and during the campaign period, blatantly and rampantly flouted election laws; COMELEC is yet to hold any of them to account.

6. Malacañang has released a baseless narcolist, widely seen as a means of threatening local politicians;

7. The President himself has, on several occasions, demanded that local politicians support administration candidates or otherwise face retribution;

8. These VCMs have malfunctioned in the same elections where the President himself has responded to reports of massive and unprecedented vote-buying by saying it is “normal.” Sino raw ba ang hindi bumibili ng boto.

Simple lang ang sagot namin dito: Sino ba talaga ang may bilyon-bilyon na ginastos sa kampanya, at may kapasidad na bumili ng boto? Hindi po kami ‘yun. All we want is a fair shake.

We look forward to institutions as esteemed as the COMELEC ensuring that the playing field is level, that election laws are effectively enforced, and that the results of these elections truly reflect the will of our people. At the very least, the COMELEC must respond to the very serious questions being raised as regards the conduct of the elections.

THE AMBASSADOR LIES.

KAPITBAHAY NEWS
SPECIAL REPORT
May 14, 2019THE AMBASSADOR LIES.

By Rodel Rodis

JFAV Welcome Press Con:Rally

LOS ANGELES--In his recent column in the Philippine Star (May 12, 2019), PH Ambassador to the US Babe Romualdez (a nephew of Imelda Romualdez Marcos) personally attacked me as “a classic example (of the) the “professional troublemakers” for hire who pester the Philippine consulates to complain, including this longtime so-called leader who claimed that he had not received his voting packet.

This perennial rabble rouser conveniently forgot that he put his address as “care of” the consulate. So the whole time, the ballot was at the consulate just waiting to be claimed.”

This is a blatant LIE!

Before he made this defamatory accusation, Ambassador Romualdez should have checked his facts with the SF Consulate staff to see if there is any record of me changing my address from my home (of 30 years) in San Francisco to the “care of” the Consulate. Can anyone just change his/her voting address without leaving a paper trail?

I believe that someone at the direction of the Duterte government changed my address from my home in SF to the consulate’s address without my knowledge or consent and without even putting down “care of the Philippine Consulate” as Ambassador Romualdez falsely claimed.

By the way, it is curious that the changed address includes “United States of America” unless this address change was made the Philippines.

Produce the records, Mr. Ambassador.

I demand an apology.

DICTATOR MARCOS DID IT. DU30 REPLICATED CHEATING.OPS,THEY DID IT AGAIN

Los Angeles– NO TO DU30’S DIGITAL Bonifacio2016

The Alliance Philippines vehemently condemned the DU30 Regime and tis election arm, the COMELEC in electing 12 administration Senators by digital cheating last May 13 elections.

The DU30 regime conducted a digital coup first ny manipulating the VCM’s, disenfranchising 52.000 overseas voters especially in the US, and then delaying the PPCRV and COMELEC transparency vote by SEVEN hours.

Unexplained Delay/News Black-out

And after seven hours blackout and unexplained delay, they would like the voting public to believe that the all 12 administration won.

Dictator MArcos did it in 1978 and 1986. But in 1968, but 35 COMELEC enumerators walked out and electronic cheating was exposed.

In our case in 2019, we cannot accept this digital TOKHANG to be legalized and accepted as normal.

No to Digital Tokhang

We vigorously protest such travesty of a clean and honest elections. We hold the COMELEC and the DU30 government responsible for frustrating the democratic process of elections.

We support people’s mass actions in the Philippines and abroad against this sham elections and electronic coup. To rebel is justified.

NO TO DIGITAL TOKHANG!
INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE OF HIS SHAM ELECTIONS.
